Meet Ken from Sydney

We were handing out flyers at the Basin Reserve today and talking to some of the people attending the New Zealand vs India test match - and we met a great bloke named Ken Willcox from the Epping Bulls Cricket Club in Sydney.

Ken had come all the way from Sydney specifically to see a test match played at the Basin Reserve, and he was shocked to discover that the powers-that-be were planing to put a flyover across the cricket ground. In Ken's words, "This is one of the best cricket grounds around. In Australia, we've lost all the atmosphere because the stadiums are so huge - and here at the Basin, you can hear the hush at the tense moments in the game, because everyone's so close to the wicket."

That's exactly the atmosphere that will be ruined by a massive and unnecessary concrete flyover.

It was great to meet such a dedicated cricket fan as Ken, and from everyone on the Save The Basin Reserve campaign we hope you're having a fantastic time in Wellington.

Ken's act is really appreciable who came all the way from Sydney specifically to see a test match played at the Basin Reserve.

Ken is a true blue aussie, I know of his team the Epping Bulls. Go Ken.

Hi All

I was pleased to see that we had a presence at the Indian test and that pamphlets were distributed but why weren't we told about this so that more of us could have helped out?

I have not received any email at all from the group even after I joined a couple of months ago.

If anyone reads this please pass my plea onto Henk or any of the organizers. They can contact me at jimbaltaxe@yahoo.co.nz .

Thanks

Hi Jim,

We've created an e-mail list for all the people who signed up at the first public meeting, but there appear to be significant issues with people who have Xtra and Yahoo e-mail accounts - all our messages are being dumped as spam.

We're pretty confident that we're fully compliant with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007, but that doesn't seem to cut any ice with Yahoo (who the Xtra mail system is outsourced to). They are refusing to add the Save The Basin campaign to their whitelist until we purchase a thing called "Domain Keys" off them, which sounds alarmingly like stand-over tactics.

We don't have a solution for this just yet, but we're working on it. In the meantime, we'll make sure we put future leafletting activities on the website so people know what's going on.

FYI

you don't have to buy domainkeys - it's a free technology, but it does require some non-trivial configuration on your mailserver

(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DKIM or http://domainkeys.sourceforge.net/ for Yahoo's free implementation)

yes, the fact that Yahoo! and Xtra are in bed does mean that it really sucks to be blacklisted by Yahoo! in NZ, given the number of people still using Xtra.

it's not too difficult to solve and get your mail accepted by Yahoo! though.

simplest solution is to find a mail provider who are credible and prepared to route your messages - probably you can just configure your system to route mail via your hosting company's mailserver

failing that, there is a method of notifying Yahoo! that you are incorrectly blacklisted (http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/postmaster/bulkv2.html), and they usually remove sites within about 48 hours if you follow their correct procedure. DKIM is *not* required for this - but it *will* help you avoid getting blacklisted in future.

good luck!
